History of Boattown USA

Boat Town, USA is a group of business and individual members who have incorporated in the State of Michigan as a non-profit corporation. In July, 1998, Boat Town, USA became an IRS approved 501 (c)(3) corporation, making all contributions made to Boat Town, USA tax exempt to the fullest extent of the law.

The mission of Boat Town, USA is to: promote the Clinton River area of Lake St. Clair which encompasses Harrison Township and Mt. Clemens and to provide charitable support for charitable organizations which promote education, safety and ecology with regard to the Boat Town USA community and its water resources.

The promotion mission of Boat Town, USA centers around the Festival of Lights Week, which occurs each year beginning with the last Thursday in July, and ending on the first Sunday in August. The two major events include the Miss Boat Town Pageant and the Festival of Lights Parade. The Miss Boat Town Pageant, held annually in August, has successfully attracted young women from all over the metro area to compete for the title of Miss Boat Town. The winner from the pageant will represent Boat Town in the Miss Michigan USA Pageant. The Festival of Lights Parade is a parade of boats decorated with lights to an annual theme. This parade, held annually on the first Saturday of August, runs from the Bridgeview bridge on the Clinton River to Metro Beach. The parade annually attracts more than 100,000 spectators to the banks of the Clinton River and Metro Beach. Boat Town, USA also sponsors other smaller promotional events such as the Mt. Clemens (held during Festival Week) and Harrison Township (Christmas Carol - held in December) pub crawls.

The charitable mission of Boat Town, USA includes the support of other local 501 (c)(3) groups. Recipients of Boat Town, USA donations include: The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps -- a program where young people from 13 - 17 years of age are trained in seamanship on a real naval vessel berthed on the Clinton River. The L’Anse Creuse Foundation, which provides grants to teachers and students within the L’Anse Creuse School system for special programs which are not funded by the school system. The Foundation also provides scholarships to graduating seniors within the L’Anse Creuse schools. St. John North Shores Hospital in Harrison Township provides an outpatient pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation program that treats children with a variety of conditions from birth defects to illness or injury related disorders. Boat Town has also given monies to other groups such as the Michigan United Conservation Club, Harrison Township Fire Department and provided directory space in our annual publication to promote Care House.

The cost of joining Boat Town, USA is only $100 annually for businesses/clubs and $25 annually for individuals. Your membership is an excellent opportunity to meet and socialize with fellow business owners and individuals in the boating community.
